Greater Southside Neighborhood Plan
The greater Southside is a unique neighborhood that many Ithacans are happy to call home. Characterized by a rich history, traditional homes, walkable streets, and beautiful green spaces, the neighborhood has a distinct sense of place that makes it special and inviting. Surrounded by busy commercial districts, the area offers convenient access to nearby shopping and services but still feels far from the hustle and bustle of city life. As we plan for the future, it is important to preserve the qualities that make the Southside such a distinctive place. In the fall of 2016, a group of neighborhood residents began working with City staff to prepare a neighborhood plan for the area that focuses on preserving these distinctive qualities of the Southside while improving access to affordable housing and multi-modal transportation and enhancing quality of life. The draft of the Greater Southside Neighborhood Plan is now complete, and the City is considering the plan for approval.
