Trash Pick-up Instructions
- Trash and recycling should be placed at the curb the night before the scheduled collection day (crews begin at 4 a.m.)
- Trash cans or plastic bags may be used. According to City Code §196-3.B.(1), "No such container shall exceed 32 gallons in capacity, and when filled, no such container shall weigh more than 70 pounds."
- Trash tags are required to pay for the collection of the trash. Tags can be purchased at City Hall or at the local grocery stores. See the Chamberlain's Office webpage for pricing and more information on purchasing trash tags.
- Holiday collection - trash is not collected on any major holiday or the day the holiday is observed in which administrative offices are closed. Trash will be collected one day late for the remainder of the week. Major holidays include:
- New Year's Day
- Martin Luther King Jr. Day
- Presidents' Day
- Memorial Day
- Juneteeth
- Independence Day
- Labor Day
- Columbus Day
- Veteran's Day
- Thanksgiving Day
- Christmas Day
Example: If a major holiday falls on a Sunday, trash collection will be one day late as administrative offices will be closed the following Monday in observance of the holiday. On all other holidays, trash collection will be on a normal schedule.
