Regular meetings are held on the third Tuesday of each month at 6:00 p.m. in Common Council Chambers, 3rd Floor, City Hall, 108 E. Green Street, Ithaca, NY 14850.

& Duties

Policies and procedures for the Department of Public Works are set and revised by the Board of Public Works, which consists of 6 city residents that are appointed by the Mayor. The Superintendent of Public Works reports to the Board of Public Works.

The Board of Public Works has authority over the following items subject to the direction and review of Common Council:
  • Water, except that it shall not in any manner fluoridate the water.
  • Sewers and Drains.
  • Streets and Sidewalks.
  • Creeks and Bridges.
  • Street lighting.
  • Parks.
  • Cemeteries.
  • Garbage.
  • Public Buildings and Property.
  • Parking Management.
If you have a topic that requires discussion with the Board of Public Works, please send all pertinent information to the Superintendent via email or postal mail explaining the item for discussion and exactly what action you would like the Board to take. Please be very specific and detailed in your description. The more information the Board has prior to the meeting, the quicker they will be able to make a decision.
