The Planning Division provides a broad range of services to City residents, property owners, business owners, developers, elected and appointed officials, and other City departments. Among the areas in which the division is most active are: housing; site plan review; economic development; geographic information management (i.e., mapping); neighborhood planning; transportation and parking; recreation and open space; environmental management; long-range planning; historic preservation; community design and amenity/quality of life; and grants development and administration.

Planning Division Mission:
Under the direction of the Mayor, Common Council, and Planning and Development Board, the Planning & Economic Development Division provides City government, citizens, and others with planning services that promote timely and informed decisions on courses of action designed to further the social, economic, and environmental goals of the community, thereby enhancing the City as a place in which to live, work, conduct business, and play.
