City of Ithaca Named 2022 Climate Champion Community Award Winner by US Green Building Council

The City of Ithaca, along with other award recipients, will be celebrated at the US Green Building Council NY Upstate 2022 Virtual Leadership Awards Gala. The virtual event is scheduled for November 15th from 4:30-6:30 PM.

In June 2019, the City of Ithaca adopted the Ithaca Green New Deal, a bold goal of carbon neutrality by 2030 with a focus on addressing historic inequities in the design and implementation. In July 2022, City Sustainability staff and community celebrated the launch of Electrify Ithaca, a groundbreaking program facilitating the decarbonization of all 6,000 buildings in the City of Ithaca. The program leverages private equity and aggregated building portfolios to expedite electrification of fossil fuel systems by bringing down costs to consumers through reduced labor and equipment costs. Since the launch, cities all over the country have adopted similar programs, using the City of Ithaca as a blueprint for whole-city decarbonization.
