College Avenue Gas Main Replacement Project

CONSTRUCTION UPDATE: College Avenue Gas Main Replacement

PROJECT LOCATION: College Avenue from Dryden Road to Mitchell Street

PROJECT START DATE: Monday, June 19, 2017

PROJECT DESCRIPTION:  On behalf of NYSEG, DDS Utilities will be upgrading gas mains and services on College Avenue this summer. There is a gas main on each side of the street. In the 300 block, on the east side, the new main will go back where the old main is currently, which is under the sidewalk. There is only a short stretch on the west side of the 300 block to be replaced, primarily through a bricked curb bump out. In the 100 and 200 blocks, the mains will be a few feet into the street.

LOCAL IMPACTS:  Traffic will be maintained in one lane with flaggers. Motorists should expect delays. Parking will be removed on both sides of the street in the work zone. The work will start at the north end of the corridor, near Dryden Road, and work its way south to Mitchell Street over the course of the summer in the hopes of minimizing impacts on businesses by prioritizing the north end in the early summer. The sidewalk will be closed to through pedestrian movement in the 300 block of College Avenue because the gas main is under the sidewalk. In the 100 and 200 blocks, the work will be in the street and sidewalks will likely remain open.

DETOURS IN PLACE: No vehicular detour will be posted, but motorists are encouraged to find alternate routes due to the expected delays in the corridor. Pedestrians will be detoured to the other side of the street in the 300 block. Construction will be coordinated with adjacent businesses to maintain access to restaurants, stores, etc.

PARKING RESTRICTIONS: Parking will be removed on both sides of the street around the work zone. Once work is complete, parking will be restored. The City encourages parkers to use the Dryden Road parking garage this summer.

SCHEDULED COMPLETION DATE: October 1, 2017
