Call for Art

Public Art_May_Submission_banner

The City of Ithaca Community Life Commission (CLC) invites artists to submit proposals for site-specific murals that will become part of the city-wide public art program. Successful proposals will demonstrate positive use of color, imagery, good will, and be thoughtful of the community in which they are placed.

Since physical dimensions vary by site, artists must specify their preferred location and the dimensions of finished work in their proposal. An artist or collaborative group may submit more than one proposal; however no more than one proposal will be chosen per artist. Selected artist will fund their mural installation; city funding is not available, however the City will support selected artists in applications to grant programs or other outside funding at this time. All submissions are due by February 15, 2019.

Incomplete applications will not be accepted.

Submissions, including artwork, will not be returned.

Application materials can be found here

Potential mural locations include:

  • Cass Park
  • Columbia St Pedestrian Bridge
  • DPW Storage Building
  • West Hill Water Tank
  • Green Street Parking Garage
  • Seneca Street Parking Garage

Proposals will be juried using the following criteria:

• Description and creative sketch of proposed work
• Feasibility of project completion
• Appropriateness of work to site location
• Quality of prior work
