Sustainable Ithaca
As environmental concerns and rising energy costs have an ever-increasing impact on our daily lives, individuals are learning to integrate concepts of sustainability into their regular routines. They use their vehicles less, buy energy-efficient appliances, and are more mindful of their water consumption, just to name a few. Making the necessary changes toward a sustainable and resilient future certainly begins at the individual level, but institutions and municipalities must change as well and they have an important role to play in leading their communities' efforts.
The city of Ithaca recognizes its responsibility to protect the health and well-being of its residents and the environment, while supporting a diverse, equitable, and vibrant economy. To this end, the city has taken many steps to become a more sustainable organization and promote sustainability and climate protection throughout the community:
