The mission of the Ithaca Fire Department is to ensure the safety and well-being of our community by providing services for fire, EMS, specialized rescue, and education.
About
The Ithaca Fire Department responds to roughly 5,200 incidents a year out of four stations located throughout the City and Town of Ithaca. We are a combination department made up of 64 career firefighters, an administrative coordinator, six active volunteer firefighters and several fire police. We operate 24/7/365 with a minimum staffing of 11 career personnel at any given time. Our protection district covers roughly 33 square miles and a population upwards of 90,000. In addition to fire and EMS protection our career members are trained in many specialized areas including; rope rescue, trench rescue, hazardous material response, swift water rescue, ice rescue, building collapse, confined space and vehicle extrication and code enforcement.
