Electrical
All electrical contractors are required to be licensed by the City of Ithaca to perform electrical work within the City of Ithaca. Applications for periodic licensing examinations can be obtained in the Building Department.
The 2022 Electrical Exam will be on Wednesday, December 7th at 8:30 AM
Those electricians who can prove a minimum of 42 months experience are welcome to apply to take the exam. There is an application fee of $100 which will be applied to the annual license fee for those who pass the test. Notice of when the next electrical exam will be held will be posted on the main page of the Building Division Section of the City of Ithaca's website.
Out-of-town electricians who are not licensed by the City of Ithaca and are licensed by another municipality will require a special reciprocal license to perform any work within the City of Ithaca. Each electrical contract undertaken by such a person or company will require a separate reciprocal license renewal.
Fire Alarm
Contractor licensing is required for the installation and maintenance of security and/or fire alarm systems. Contractors are required to hold a current New York State Security or Fire Alarm Systems Installer license to perform work within the City of Ithaca.

HVAC Contractors
All heating and/or ventilation engineer, contractor or installer are required to obtain a certificate of registration to perform work within the City of Ithaca. Registrations are renewed yearly and applications can be obtained in the Building Department.
Plumbing Contractors
